| REVIEW OF 2012 RUN FOR THE ROCKS --- HUTCHINSON'S ONLY HALF MARATHON! |
| ---------------------------The SECOND annual SALT CITY RUN FOR THE ROCKS is now history- and what a race it was! The race started in Carey Park by Salt City Splash and went up the Jim Martinez trail to Rice Park, meandered thru to Old Farm Estates area North and East right near my house at 37th and Elm and then East on the Northeast trail to 30th St by the bowling alley and then on the brand new trail from 30th Street to exit in the 14th Street area and then West by the YMCA and Hutch Juco area to the finish at Gowans Stadium. This is fast becoming on of the most popular races in Hutchinson and draws participants from all across Kansas and beyond. the Boys and Girls Club and Hutchinson Recreation Commission do a wonderful job of putting on the race - congratulations to them! The new course this year that avoided running thru the fairgrounds and incorporated the new trail system was well received by the runners. The bathrooms and water stops were great and so were all the spectators. The awards are quite unique with rock salt trophys and beautiful medallions. I would like to thank Shirley Power for pushing my wife Judy in her race buggy (Judy had a stroke a year and a half ago). She was thrilled to get to participate in this race and I am limited in my race distance to push her in since I had my back operated on in May. We are certainly looking forward to next year and are predicting the number of participants will continue to incrrease.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Why not join the Salt City Strider Running Club here in Hutchinson. We offer a monthly newletter and website that reports your race times, pizza parties, a Christmas Light run, and the comraderie of some of the nicest runners in the state! Only $10.00 for a single membership or $20.00 for a family membership. There is even an entry form available for printing right from this web site. |
