RACE REVIEW
SUPER BOWL SUNDAY RUN (4 Mile Race) |
| The annual Superbowl Sunday Run was held in Wichita, Ks at Linwood park. This is kind of a prerace race for the new year, no awards but still worth going to. We always renew our Run Wichita membership at this race and get a $5.00 discount which is nice. They also always have a give away that is not a T-shirt which most people that run a lot of races appreciate. This year it was - or will be if we get it - a reflective vest of some kind. They did not show up by race day to they said they would mail them to us out of towners but have not received it yet. I guess I better call them.
The weather was about the best I can remember for this race and I think they had a record number of runners. The course is not great, jumping from the park road to the bike path with a lot of twists and turns but this is an easygoing race that most people just run to see how bad of shape they are in now that the end of winter is in sight, another 6 weeks or so.
I had 2 surprises in this race. First, my wife actually ran almost the entire race with me, only running off and leaving me the last quarter mile or so. Also, since I'm only a month past laproscopic surgery on my knee and expected to finish last, I was surprised that I beat 5 people to the finish line - the harsh winter must have taken a toll on them too.
This race is a 4 miler and the easygoing "nice to see you again" atmosphere makes it enjoyable. Our friend, Richard Golden, even came up from Oklahoma to do this race, and it is always nice to see him.
